WFUNA Young Leader of the Year 2019


WFUNA is pleased to announce it call for nominations for WFUNA Young Leader of 2019. WFUNA supports and encourages youth engagement and participation in the United Nations Associations and United Nations Youth Associations around the world through the WFUNA Youth Network. With this initiative, we want to highlight the contributions of thousands of young people to our organization and share their achievements with a wider audience in commemoration of International Youth Day 2019.

What is this year's theme?

The WFUNA Young Leader of 2019 will be focused on Sustainable Development Goal 4 aimed at ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. We encourage nominations of young people that are working to:

  • Ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes
  • Ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture‚Äôs contribution to sustainable development
  • Substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship
  • Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to education including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations

Who is an ideal WFUNA Young Leader?

A WFUNA Young Leader of the Year has to be able to inspire other youth looking to get involved in global issues. An ideal candidate shows:

  • Inspirational Leadership
  • Grassroots work on Sustainable Development Goal 4
  • Commitment and integrity towards improving the lives of others

In addition, the WFUNA Young Leader of the Year is:

  • Between 15-29 years old
  • A member of a United Nations Association or United Nations Youth Association
