EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the natural history of cardiogenic shock, including etiologies, the pre-shock state, and the importance of early intervention.
  • Evaluate the strengths and limitations of non-invasive and invasive testing, hemodynamic evaluation, and available pharmacologic and circulatory support devices.
  • Explain recommendations for cardiac support device utilization, incorporating the SCAI Consensus Document on Mechanical Support Devices.
  • Discuss cardiac support device operator training and credentialing and device troubleshooting.
