Research or Creative Activity Grant

 

 

Funding (up to $1000) may be used for:

  • Purchasing equipment and supplies necessary to undertake the proposed project
  • Traveling to and from project sites
  • Non-royalty publication costs
  • Activities undertaken to enhance creative imagination and potential through exposure (e.g., attend artist talk or show)
  • Only the specific requests in the funded proposal

Funding may not be used for:

  • Tuition, room and board, class textbooks
  • Student salaries or stipends
  • Computers
  • Travel courses

Selection Criteria (not in order of priority):

  • Quality of the proposal (e.g., clarity of the objective (s), reasonable timetable, the merit of work, adherence to the application guidelines)
  • Significance of the proposal
  • Likelihood of completing the project within the timeline indicated in the proposal
  • Letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor
  • Student class standing
  • Consideration of previous SRG funding 
  • Consideration of alternative or additional funding sources 

 

Conference Grant

 

Funding (up to $500) may be used for:

  • Student travel to professional meetings, workshops, institutes, and symposia, including registration, abstract fees, transportation, lodging, and/or meals.

Selection Criteria:

  • Primary/first author presenting the work
  • Quality of application
    • please include an itemized estimated budget 
  • Letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor
  • Student class standing
  • Consideration of previous SRG funding 
  • Consideration of alternative or additional funding sources

According to the 1965 National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act, “The term ‘humanities’ includes, but is not limited to, the study of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of the social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life.”
