At what level should I start?
Our qualifications

CIMA has two levels of study in Islamic Finance (the Diploma and the Advanced Diploma). You can start the Advanced Diploma without completing the Diploma if you successfully complete the Gateway exam. However, we recommend you complete each level in sequence. The Advanced Diploma is designed to be taken after the Diploma because much of its content refers back to the Diploma


About the Gateway exam

In order to start the Advanced Diploma without passing the Diploma, you are required to pass a Gateway exam, which comprises 100 multiple choice questions taken from the four Diploma modules. The exam costs £150 per attempt, has a pass mark of 80% and there is no limit to the number of attempts you can make.

Am I ready for the Gateway exam?

In order to help you make the right decision about which level to enrol onto, you can complete the following self-evaluation test of your Islamic finance knowledge. The 20 questions are taken from across the eight subject areas covered in the four Diploma modules.

• If you score 16 or more, we recommend you take the Gateway exam

• If you score less than 16 we recommend you take the Diploma first, before moving on to the Advanced Diploma. Please use the 'next' button to move through the test (rather than your browser button).
